Here is a version of the Shadow I drew up in the late 80's. You can see I was channeling Gahan Wilson in the faces.
...and here it is with some color thrown in.
The Shadow is copyrighted. I don't know who, exactly, but rest assured...he is...The Shadow knows.

Kull
Here is the penciled splash from a 70's Kull issue by Marie Severin [#2, I think]. I found this years ago in a fanzine and couldn't resist taking a shot at inking it. Early 2000's.....
The pencils...
The inks...I skipped that pesky scene at top and went right to the action. :)
Kull is, I would imagine, still copyrighted to the Robert E. Howard estate. Let's assume all rights are still reserved and no funny business, eh?

Fear...
From the same publication, a two pager by Bobby Nash and myself. And...there's Dixie.
Now here's a version Bobby sent me some time ago with different text....

The dream
Here's a little story I did from the same 90's book the last post came from. And yes, that's Dixie Macabre introducing this tale.

Space girl blues
A piece from the 90's..the original art is long gone. This is scanned from the printed version. At the time, I was making copies at a place that had a souped up copier. It could scan and apply screens to tones. It looks primitive now, but at the time it seemed interesting.

Dixie Macabre
Here's a horror host I created in the 90's named Dixie Macabre. Pencils on this piece by George Petrisko and myself.

Catnip
Here is a jungle character I created in the 90's named Catnip. Everybody should have a jungle character, right? This was for the cover of a book that mercifully died quick. The figure was by me, but the beautifully penciled background was by a talented fellow named Roger Gosdin.

Freaky smooooooth...
So...I've been having a good time playing with what I refer to as my techno-mechno style of inking, laced with updated pen techniques. One publisher I work for suggested he prefers my older, smoother linework. And to be honest, I've been getting the urge to lean heavier into the brushwork. I am, after all, a brush artist by nature. Pen is great for structure and backgrounds, but that brush is organic goodness. Here is a sketch I did up in techno-mechno several moinths ago, but inked in my traditional, brushy style. Whattaya think?

J.T.'s Bat
Friend and penciler Jim Taylor is a huge Batman fan. And sometimes he goes Batty...artwise. Here's a piece we worked up.

Bobby Day 5
In the late 90's, Bobby and I decided to create our very own swamp creature. Everybody should have their own swamp creature, don't you think? So Bobby wrote some stories up, and I....thumbnailed the first one....and then.....the pile of unrealized dreams got a little higher. Sigh...Anyway, here are the first five pages of layouts for...the QUAGG!

Bobby Day 3
This is a little different. In the 90's, Bobby and I created an adventure team called Little Lamb and Black Sheep. I laid out the first chapter, but I got a bit carried away in the planning stage. By the time I had the chapter laid out, I had spent most of my creative energy towards the piece. This was one of several lessons I was to learn about budgeting the energy I have towards a project. Now my layouts are a bit looser, allowing me to flesh the pieces out in the penciling stage. I'm not sure if this is common to other artists, but it sure is true for me. Here are the first four pages.

Bobby
Okay...last week I was showing some of the work I did in bygone days with my friend George. So this week, I'm showing work done with my friend Bobby Nash.
Here are 2 pages of a female superhero named Onyx, created by Bobby. This is mid-to-late 90's. Sadly I never got past the first few pages....sigh....
Onyx is copyright 2012 Bobby Nash.
